Learn about us

Blackout is an idea formed during the 2019 media blackout on Sudan. It aims to expose the world to the social issues affecting Africans as well as expose us Africans to opportunities that will help us to succeed. Our organisation was founded to provide a one-stop shop for national and international opportunities for youth in Botswana and Africa. It aims to prepare youth to address Africa’s problems by providing access to educational opportunities as well as information about social issues needing our attention. Blackout was established in 2020 and is the brainchild of Rhodes Scholar, activist, and poet Dineo Mya Serame.

We actively promote educational equity in Africa. We share and provide opportunities that will make the advantages of education available to all.

Blackout Africa is raising scholarship funds for motivated junior secondary school students in financial need in Botswana. The Blackout scholarship will be providing support in the form of financial aid and mentoring, aiming to address socio-economic barriers.

Junior school fees for an entire year are only £20 in Botswana. However, this fee is an overwhelming barrier to some families. I would really appreciate your help in raising these funds. Please consider donating to our GoFundMe. Every contribution counts.
